If a picture is worth a thousand words, then how come there aren't better pictures out there?

The web is full of images, and graphic designs. Nowadays everybody has a picture of their last vacation somewhere in digital format, but unless you are an artist or a wiz at MySpace, it seems that the only thing a picture is worth, is more space on the web server.

Web design is not necessarily about graphics, it is about the way the site is structured. Can your customer get from one part of your site to another without getting lost? Can a customer see all the things you want them to see?

Image might be everything, but do you remember the old jeans commercials? They did not seem to be anything about jeans. However, people remembered them. The problem is, the company was not clear enough in the advertisement and most of the advertising dollars profitted the competitor.

Unless you are an artist, on the web, you want to be minimalistic on your images. This is not because of file size as it was before, but because you miss out on the web customer on the web! Web customers want to shop, so details are more important than the image. If you want to keep the customer, give them more information than your competitor. Not only will this keep them on your page longer, but it will load your page faster. This is a great asset for those who are doing cost-per-click marketing.

In the early part of this millenium, hardware started getting more sophisticated so there was a great explosion of graphics, however, it was not until recently that high speed internet users passed the dial up users, meaning a great deal of online advertising was wasted. Although, the technology has become more affordable, the other aspect is searh engine placement. Since the search engine cannot "see" your image, it just went from a thousand words to the few words you put in the tag.

So why are graphic artists still in demand? Because a good graphic artist in combination with a good web designer will be able to create a personalized web site for you that is both astheticly pleasing, as well as content rich, with all the technical aspects required to get you the results that you picture,
